Paws In The Park Pawty

On August 16th I participated in Paws In The Park Pawty at Freedlander Park in Wooster Ohio. This event takes over the whole park with a giant Olympic size pool, contests, food and just about everything a human and their dog could ask for on a sunny summer day. I go there and take photos of the dogs and humans for free as a way to help benefit the Wayne County Animal Shelter. It is really fun and I get to meet all kinds of doggies and their humans.

Here are some of the shots from the event.

Polar Vortex

The winter of 2013-2014 is the coldest I can remember. I am sure if you search the internet you can find the exact details and numbers, but for me this one is the coldest I can remember. I have been looking at my collection of photographs that I shot over the last couple of years and some of the time I see them a bit differently than I saw them when I first took the photograph. Maybe because there were other photos shot that day that I was more interested in or that I started shooting the next day and didn’t go back visit that day, who knows… Here are a couple train car photos that I now see in a different context.

Ohio The New Alaska

Using this blast of never ending Ohio winter weather to go through some old pictures and challenge myself to do something creative with them has actually been kind of fun. I am able to see the pictures I took in the past and look at them  with a different context. This photo I remember was taken after a photo walk around my little town. It was one of the last pictures taken and there was something about these old style retro chairs with their faded colors against this white washed cement wall background that caught my eye.

Here is the original un-processed straight out of the camera picture I took of the chairs.

I was hesitant to add any text because when there is text in a photo the photo becomes about the text.
In this case I think it compliments the image.

Family Photo

Happy New Year Everyone from Gary Jackson Photography.

I had the distinct pleasure of shooting a family portrait of my old friends the Scheeser’s. We had the shoot in their living room where we used to have band practice many, many years ago. I only mention that because it is really not a large space. We picked a spot by the sliding glass door with some curtains as our backdrop. We got everyone together and I started shooting. Right away I knew I was in trouble because I didn’t have much room and I couldn’t get any depth between the family and the background. I brought two speedlights with umbrellas and that was enough light to cover everyone. When I got home and was reviewing the shots most of them turned out great and then there was this one shown here. The “before” picture. The before indicates before I started working on it in the digital darkroom. I am continually blown away by todays digital technology centered around photography. I think the final photograph turned out great after some processing. What do you think? Thanks to the Scheeser family for letting me take some photographs of their awesome family!

I am working on promoting myself via Facebook and the Internet. I am learning as I go and it is quite an adventure. Today I ran into an interesting service named ThumbTack. They will let me know of leads within my local area and provide a means for me to quote for the job if I want to. The signup is smooth and the website is very user friendly. I will let you know how it works out. You can find out more about Thumbtack here:
